Last thursday I was invited for a bloggersevent organised by MoMu (Fashion Museum) Antwerp. The new exhibition “Living Fashion. Women’s Daily Wear 1750-1950” was presented to us. MoMu has received the collection (with more than 2000 pieces) from Jacoba De Jonge, a Dutch collector of women’s clothing. I cannot describe it proberly without understatements. The collection is just breathtaking. It’s about the daily wardrobe of a middle-class women between 1750 and 1950. It’s separated in different themes: at home, pregnancy, sports, shopping, evening dresses, and so on. They’ve told us that there were fashion trends back then, but the middle-class women were inventive. Their closets weren’t as abundantly filled with dresses like those of fashionistas nowadays, but they adjusted their dresses so they could be worn on different occasions. I couldn’t help but notice several overlaps with contemporary trends. On the walls you could see pictures where women were wearing these kind of dresses. They got me daydreaming of walking around in such dresses myself (I’m a costume drama lover you see!). The floor was covered with a print of cobblestones, a big wink to streetstyle fashion nowadays.

You can visit the Living Fashion exhibition at MoMu Antwerp every day (except for mondays) between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. untill august 12th 2012.
